Bronze Sculpture Crafting Process
Step 1 - Modeling
The original form is first sculpted in clay. A wax replica is then created from this clay model, capturing every detail of the intended sculpture.
Step 2 - Lost Wax Casting
The wax model is coated in a ceramic shell. The wax is melted out, leaving a hollow mold. Molten bronze is poured into the cavity. Once cooled, the shell is removed to reveal the raw bronze casting.
Step 3 - Hand Carving
For large works, individual cast sections are welded together. The entire surface is then meticulously refined by hand to remove seams and perfect details.
Step 4 - Polishing
The bronze surface is carefully polished and prepared. Chemicals are then applied to create a colored patina, which gives the sculpture its unique finish and protective coating.

Indoor sculptures
- Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth or soft brush; avoid harsh chemicals or metal polishes.
- If the sculpture has a wax or seal, avoid immersing in water or aggressive cleaning agents.
Outdoor sculptures
- Clean periodically (depending on environment, every 3–12 months) with mild soap and soft cloth / brush to remove dust, grime, and environmental residues.
- After cleaning, dry thoroughly to prevent moisture buildup that causes oxidation or spotting.
- Reapply a protective wax coating annually (e.g. micro-crystalline wax) to protect against humidity, air pollutants, and water exposure.
- High material & casting cost - Bronze alloy (copper, tin, etc.) and the melting/casting process are expensive.
- Labor-intensive craftsmanship - Many bronze sculptures are made via lost-wax casting, hand finishing, patina application, and hand polishing/painting.
- Size, complexity, and customization - Large-scale works, intricate designs, custom finish or patina, and bespoke orders significantly increase cost.
- Artistic / collectible value - Sculptures by renowned artists, limited editions, or with provenance/certificates have higher value and price.
- Long-lasting and durable - With proper care, a well-made bronze sculpture can last for decades or even centuries; many historic bronze statues remain intact today.
- Patina may add value over time - The natural oxidation/patina that develops over time can enhance the antique or classic look, often considered a desirable feature.
